Dayhike with Rich and the County Hikers, with a couple of new friends from the Yahoo Sacramento Hikers. The day started with a surprise birthday gift for Rich, thanking him for setting up one cool hike after another. After driving to Squaw Valley, we took the Squaw Valley Tram to High Camp, saving almost 2000' and 7 miles of hiking and climbing. What the heck! It wasn't our idea to put the tram there! From High Camp, we hiked 4 miles (round-trip) to the summit of Granite Chief, a cool peak at 9006'. We had a great lunch, with new and old friends. On the way back, we took a shortcut, which as is often the case, wasn't such a great idea. We survived, and more importantly, had a fun hike. Check out
Bonnie's photos from this hike!
Our route for today. We took the Squaw Valley Tram up to High Camp, then set off over Emigrant Pass for Granite Chief. We came back via what we thought would be a short cut, but the route had some moderately steep cross-country that some in our group had to do very slowly.
