Dayhike ramble with Rich and the County Hikers, exploring some easy but interesting terrain in the Grouse Lakes area, north of Emigrant Gap off I-80. We hiked an out-and-back loop of about 5 miles, mostly on-trail but with a bit of XC thrown in. A great sunny day in the subalpine Sierra.
Our hike route for today. We stopped for lunch near Round Lake. After that, we took a cross-country route around Long Lake, rejoining the trail north of Island Lake. We contemplated an ascent of Fall Creek Mountain, but decided to save that for another day. It was my first time hiking from this trailhead, and I was pretty impressed!
