Dayhike to Mount Rose, with Bonnie, Bree, Jean, and Gail from the County Hikers. Mount Rose is in Nevada, near Lake Tahoe, between Incline Village and Reno. Happy to find that the hikers trail has been re-routed off the old access road. Encountered several other surprises on this hike, all pleasant. It was a cool, sunny day, with just a touch of hazy forest fire smoke.
Mount Rose Summit Trail. Rich suggested this route for the County Hikers, but wasn't able to join us. Most guidebooks, including Tahoe Sierra from Wilderness Press, still cite the access road route, shown in black dashes. Recently, a very nice hiker-only trail (shown in red) has been completed. It is very well graded, and almost 3/4 mile shorter than the former route. We were pleasantly surprised to encounter this new trail.
