Dayhike with Karen, from Barker Pass near Tahoe along the PCT, to the edge of Granite Chief Wilderness. We contemplated an ascent of Twin Peaks, but decided to call it a recon hike instead. It was a bright, sunny day, with clear skies and mild temps. Lots of water flowing down the east side of the sierra crest, with lingering snow patches and plenty of wildflowers. Great day to explore a new area where neither of us had ever been. Another jewel in the backyard! We're still looking for clues about Laura Palmer ...
Looking back at a snowfield we crossed. Some of them had some steep areas. It wasn't too bad on this day, but you could see how this route would be tough in deep snow. The north and east facing slopes help the snow stick around, even when the weather warms up.
