Frank Farmer  > Day-Trips > Cool Auburn Trail 2005
Dayhike with Bonnie and Jean. We hiked on the Quarry Trail, where CA 49 crosses the American River. We hiked about 4.25 miles upstream on the Middle Fork of the American River.

Frank Farmer > Quarry Trailhead -- Near the American River on Hwy 49. Jean suggested we try this trail, which is part of the Western States Trail. A perfect fall day!
Frank Farmer > Intrepid Hikers! From left: Bonnie, Frank, Jean. Looks like Frank didn't focus this shot very well
Frank Farmer > Is this a castle? Nope. It's part of an old limestone mine. Previously, there were all sorts of converyors, crushers, loading areas, and even a railroad!
Frank Farmer > A big flat open area, by the old limestone plant and alongside the river. We're about 1.2 miles from the trailhead
Frank Farmer > A big limestone seam crosses the river here
Frank Farmer > Another view of the limestone ridge, back away from the river channel.
