Frank Farmer > This is the loop we originally planned, also in a counterclockwise direction. A worthy hike, which we'll probably do some day. It is about 8 miles distance, with 2500' gain/loss. The descent DOWN the north side of Eagle Peak will be very tough on the knees.
Frank Farmer > Trail map for American Creek Canyon. Adapted from a similar map by Waterfallswest.com. The hike is about 2.7 miles each way, with about 1100' elevation loss from the Pilgrim Court trailhead to Poverty Bar on the Middle Fork of the American River. Along the way is American Canyon Creek Falls, which is a bit hard to reach, near the trail just before reaching the bottom of the canyon.
Frank Farmer > Blue Ridge - Cold Canyon route map. We took the red route, in a counter-clockwise direction. The blue route is to the Putah Creek Valley Overlook, which we did not attempt.
Frank Farmer > Cold Canyon - Blue Ridge Loop route profile. Our route was from right to left.
