Frank Farmer > Hike route map. We hiked to Castle Pass via the road on the west side of Castle Valley, which is used by four-wheelers and mountain bikes, and is quite dusty in spots. We returned via the Pacific Crest Trail route on the east side of the valley. This is a much nicer trail, even though it is slightly longer and also used by horses. The hike was about 7 miles round-trip, with a gain/loss of about 1800 feet.
